Peschici is a small town of about 4,500 people on the north-eastern coast of the Gargano peninsula, in the province of Foggia. It sits on a karst limestone spur more than 100 metres above the Adriatic, its whitewashed old town perched right on the cliff. Reckon on about 205 km, roughly 2h 45m by car, from Bari airport (BRI), and about 23 km, roughly a 30-minute drive, west of Vieste. A car is effectively needed here; park at the edge of the old town and continue on foot.
Best things to do in Peschici
Peschici’s pull is its setting, a white town clinging to the cliff top with the sea far below, ringed by a wild, green coast. The old town is for wandering; the castle and the trabucchi give it depth; and the beaches and boat trips fill the long summer days. It is compact enough to see the highlights in an afternoon, but the views reward slow, aimless walking.

The Castello di Peschici
A castle on the cliff over the sea, traditionally attributed to the Byzantines around 970 and later developed by the Normans, with Swabian and Spanish additions. Restored and open, it has a panoramic terrace.
The trabucchi
Monumental wooden fishing platforms projecting out over the cliffs, documented here since at least the 18th century, concentrated along the Peschici to Vieste coast. Some now serve as atmospheric seafood restaurants.
Also worth your time: the Abbazia di Santa Maria di Kalena just outside town, a Benedictine abbey documented by 1023 (verify current access before setting out); the small fishing port, departure point for boat tours and Tremiti ferries; and the Torre di Monte Pucci watchtower viewpoint over the coast.

Sleep in the whitewashed clifftop old town for boutique hotels and B&Bs, atmospheric, walkable and with bay views, best if you want the town on your doorstep. Or base along the beach and camping-village strip on the pine-backed coast, where family resorts and villaggi with pools spread out towards Manacore and Gusmay, better if the sand is your priority. If you can, come in September or October: the sea is still warm and the crowds have thinned right out.
